Nobody Knows

This is a piece by a new member, Sandi Jean, in response to our latest workshop assignment.

Nobody knows

the plight of another

the ups, the downs,

the path of our brother.

Nobody knows

the reason he does

the things that he does

that seem without cause.

Nobody knows

yet everyone judges

we’re quick to convict

and hold lasting grudges

Yet somebody knows

all the facts and suppose

that if we knew them too

we’d feel pretty darn blue

at our part in his execution.

Haven

From one of our most prolific writers, Rebecka Stock:

Haven

Suddenly I am alone.
Thin grey voices fade in
and out, but I no longer
respond to them.

It is dark.
I hear a voice
naked with longing
and hoarse with hope.

Hands reach out
their touch returns me
to the long sought haven.
I am home, at last.

I turn and look once more
at those left behind,
but the silent souls vanish,
lost in the mists of time.

Workshop 4/3/08

Fran brought this challenging workshop: Select a color, write a poem about that color without mentioning it. See if the group can guess the color.

I don't have Fran's or Chris' efforts (in future posts, we'll include workshop work from all members) but I'll post my piece:

your eyes when you wear your favorite sweater

are like

that great picture we saw,

remember?

lace-like macro

with morning’s dew or

afternoon’s  late rain;

clinging dollops made large by the extremity of

the close up;

are like

the still lake across the street

its surface covered

with velvet that

somehow reflects the sunset

flipping the bright

to deep forest hues;

are like

a corn field before the cobs come

endless ocean

winds causing waves

and children running through

emerging with hair and clothes frosted with

the color of your eyes

when you wear your favorite

sweater

Can you guess the color?
